Charlotte is growing fast, but it also faces an upward mobility crisis rooted in a long history of discrimination and injustice, tracing from slavery, to Jim Crow, to urban renewal, to gentrification. The transformative process of restorative justice will allow this community to grow from its past to a brighter future.

Restorative Justice CLT seeks to enact transparent, accountable, and sustainable projects to redress the history of discriminatory practices and policies in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. We strongly believe in the healing and restoration that must occur to redress the legacy of injustice done to Black Charlotteans.

Our third event in the Teach-In Tuesday series is hosted by JT Williams Community Development, Inc. We will discuss the issue of historic wealth disparities in Charlotte and participants will discover ways to get involved in the community and Restorative Justice CLT.

This event will be both in-person and online, with 30 spots available for the in-person gathering at St. Paul Community Baptist Church (space limited due to physical distancing measures). Simultaneously, we will broadcast an online session via RingCentral (similar to Zoom) with the link emailed out an hour before the session. We encourage early registration to save your spot or recieve sign-on information.

This event follows in the radical tradition of teach-ins, which serve to destabilize and decolonize academia and knowledge production, to promote consciousness-raising, and to build a community joined in resistance. We look forward to seeing everyone today and to continuing to take action in our community. Please spread the word and feel free to invite friends!

This event is free and open to all.

Sponsored by Restorative Justice CLT and the Stan Greenspon Center for Peace and Social Justice.
