Certificate in Social Justice and Community Organizing

We are in the process of designing and funding a one semester Certificate in Social Justice and Community Organizing that we anticipate starting in January 2023. We are developing an SJCO Certificate so that leaders in communities that most need and merit resources can gain the skills they need to become impactful organizers and sustaining changemakers.

Scholars will receive theoretical training through the examination of core concepts of social justice, as well as practical steps for bringing people together to assess community assets and needs, develop action plans, and build support for implementation, goal-setting, and measurement. We will provide hands-on training on how to form core groups, build organizational capacity, and formulate strategies to engage constituents and allies.

The SJCO Certificate program will utilize multiple pedagogical modalities to achieve learning outcomes, as we value our participants who have diverse educational backgrounds and learning styles. In addition to being academically accessible, we aim to make the program financially accessible and flexible - taking into account our participants' work, life, and family obligations.
